Intro: Coalition for Collegial Governance


CoCoGov (the Coalition for Collegial Governance, CoCoGov.org) is a bottom-up initiative that started during the summer of 2025 at Dalhousie University while we were locked out by our university leadership. As concerned faculty members, we began organizing around a shared set of aspirations, namely

  • to encourage a return and strengthened commitment to collegial governance, based on transparency in strategic planning and decision making, at Dalhousie University and in the higher education sector more broadly,
  • to understand the impact corporatization and consulting firms such as NousCubane at Dalhousie and at other universities in Canada, Australia, and elsewhere and to inform the academic community about what we learn, and
  • to mobilize the academic community to bring about meaningful change in strategic directions and decision making based on the information we gather.

As of November 29, 2025 we are 74 members strong representing 11 faculties within the University as shown in the graph above. We have self-organized into several sub-committees as we work toward our objectives (see here).
